While location scouting for an upcoming tv series my team stayed at the Comfort Inn President for a week. On the second night, one of my producers claimed to have spotted Tom Hardy in the dining room. Tom is known for playing the Batman character Bane. His companion was wearing a Bane t shirt, which signaled to us that this was the real deal. Although he had lost most of the weight he put on to play the character, it was definitely him, and we introduced ourselves. Tom is a very gregarious fellow and we had a great chat over dinner and stayed until the kitchen closed that night. The next evening, he gifted us with a gorgeous Bane shirt along with a couple of Batman t's. He apparently identifies strongly with that role and travels with some spare shirts just in case. Meeting him made our trip exceptionally memorable, and is part of the story we tell when discussing the locations we discovered in the Gujarat countryside. [James Levin]
